Parking attendants have been a feature of Dublin city life for decades. However, many are self appointed leaving Dubliners wary of 'the lock hard men'.
Reporter Kenny Murray speaks to members of the public about their views on parking attendants around Dublin city.
One woman comments that
Anybody can stand out and wear a cap and have a newspaper in their hand and demand money.
Although asked for their side of the story many of the parking attendants are reluctant to speak in front of the cameras.
While it is against the law for them to ask for money, the general agreement is that motorists will pay them to look after their cars while parked.
Among those interviewed is Alice Glenn of Dublin City Council who describes the parking attendants as,
A necessary evil.
