Following an appeal the public came out in force demonstrating their generosity in donating items of cultural, social and historical significance to their community and the city of Waterford.
The items will go on public display at the former Bishop's Palace, which is now being revamped for use by Waterford City Council.
Among the donations were paintings, coins, medals and letters, some of which are over 300 years old.
At a ceremony held on 8 November 2010, the items are to be formally handed over to the Mayor of Waterford.
Waterford Treasures Museum Curator Eamonn MacEneaney talks about the donation of a letter from operatic composer William Vincent Wallace which dates from 1790, and the last ever letter written by Thomas Francis Maher from prison on the eve of his deportation to Tasmania. Other significant donations include a letter by Michael Davitt.
