In July 1985 Dublin Street Traders marched through Dublin city centre to Mountjoy Jail in protest at the imprisonment of two traders for non-payment of fines.
Throughout July 1985 street traders conflicted with the Gardaí over the right to casual trading in Dublin city. Trouble broke out between protesters and the Gardaí at a demonstration on O'Connell Street resulting in seven arrests.
The dispute centred on casual trading in non-designated areas.
