Almost £3 million stolen from Brinks Allied Depot making it the biggest cash robbery in the history of the state.

Almost £3 million was stolen from the Brinks Allied Depot in Santry, Dublin. The haul included some sterling and US dollars.

One of the most daring robberies in the state's history.

The raid was meticulously planned, with fencing and trees being removed by the gang prior to gaining entry access to the yard at the Brinks depot. Two of the five masked radars overpowered staff and took the money. The raid lasted one minute and was described by Gardaí as daring and sophisticated.

Minister for Justice Nora Owen comments on the raid and the allegation that the Gardaí had prior information about the raid.
