The 'Lark by the Lee' began in 1985 with a memorable surprise performance by U2.

The appearance of U2 at the festival established it as a leading rock music event for Irish talent.

Bands hoping to emulate Ireland's biggest musical success story are now vying with each to perform at this annual event.

Four years later, over 15,000 people turned out for a free open air concert by the River Lee in Cork city.

The event was organised by RTÉ 2FM and Cork 89FM Radio.

All the bands performing at the event are from Cork and include Burning Embers, the Belsonic Sounds and Princes Street. Also in attendance to entertain the crowd is Cork native and 2FM regular Terence, alias John Creedon.
