A 34-year-old man has been extradited from the UK to Ireland to face a charge of murder following the killing of a former soldier in Dublin over eight years ago.

Warren O'Connor was stabbed to death in Donaghmede in January 2010.

He had gone to the Grattan Wood apartment complex on 16 January after a friend called him for help.

The friend had complained about a noisy party at a neighbouring apartment, but the response he received made him concerned for his own, as well as his family's safety.

Mr O’Connor was driving the friend, his pregnant girlfriend and a three-year-old child away when they were rammed by a chasing car.

The 24-year-old, from Ferrycarrig Green in Coolock, was subsequently stabbed in the chest and later died in hospital.

The development in the eight-year investigation came on 9 January when a man gardaí had been looking for, was arrested in London.

Detectives from Coolock travelled to the UK to escort the 34-year-old murder suspect back to Dublin this evening.

He is due to appear in court tomorrow.
