RTÉ's new2day editor Avril Hoare and Daddy blogger Ross Good join Taragh Loughrey-Grant to discuss how to talk to our kids about what's happening on the News. Watch Rearing to Go in the video above.

According to editor Avril Hoare, news2day have two mottos that they work by: "Truth and Hope" and "Reassure".

"Both very important", says Ann-Marie. "Children get the facts, but they are reassured that there is more good in the world than bad."

Some tips on helping your children get the best from the News

When approaching news topics with your children, Avril advises that you "inform yourself first" and "watch news from a variety of sources, listen and watch newscasters and news programmes that you trust."

She also notes that parents know their child best so "you know what they can handle and what they can’t handle."
