27 September 2012: RTÉ Television today officially launched Today, a brand new daytime programme, broadcasting live on RTÉ One on weekdays from Cork.

RTÉ Television today officially launched Today, a brand new daytime programme, broadcasting live on RTÉ One on weekdays from Cork. The new hour-long show, which starts on Monday November 5th, will be fronted by the Today team of Dáithí O Sé, Maura Derrane, Norah Casey and Bláithnaid Ní Chofaigh.

The show was launched at an event held in Cork’s English Market and attended by the Cllr. John Buttimer, Lord Mayor of Cork, RTÉ Television Managing Director Glen Killane, television personalities and some of Cork’s finest citizens.

RTÉ Television’s Managing Director, Glen Killane said, “This is a good day for RTÉ Television and a good day for Cork. It’s the first time we will be producing daytime television from Cork and this is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the huge range of talent we have here and across the entire country. RTÉ has always had a strong commitment to Cork and this announcement is a further show of our support for Cork and the regions and our confidence in the expertise and abilities of the production team in RTÉ Cork. There’s a real track record of broadcasting excellence here – the Cork team have a huge range of experience gleaned here and in the UK and many programmes produced in Cork have been sold all around the world, so we know that programmes produced in Cork have set the standards in Lifestyle programming.”

Dáithí Ó Sé and Maura Derrane anchor the show from Monday to Thursday with a lively mix of topical chat, fun and lifestyle items, while on Fridays Norah Casey and Bláithnaid Ní Chofaigh kick start the weekend with an all-female, feelgood show focussing on entertainment, beauty, fashion, movie reviews and celebrity gossip. Each day the presenters will be joined in studio by a panel of three guests, plus additional specialist contributors live in studio and via live link-ups from around the country.

Today will be a mix of the issues of the day, entertainment news, food, fashion and beauty, book clubs, health and well being, home and garden, consumer news and money management, parenting and kids, relationships and travel.

Today will get Ireland talking every afternoon using a mixture of contributors from RTÉ’s studios around the country, together with viewer feedback via text, email and Twitter, allowing the audience to take part in on-air discussion and debate and to stay in touch with the Today team.

Today’s event also saw the full team of contributors unveiled to the media. Top chefs Lilly Higgins, Paul Flynn, Catherine Fulvio, Kevin Dundon and Martin Shanahan will be part of daily cooking items and will be joined throughout the week by lifestyle expert Peter Kelly aka Franc, consumer expert Conor Pope, fashion experts Brendan Courtney, Sonya Lennon, Annemarie O’Connor and Christofer Kaprelian and travel expert Fionn Davenport. Also joining the team are Dr Chris Luke and psychologists Julie McCall and Brenda Roche.

In a new departure for RTÉ Television Today will include a number of sponsored segments in addition to the title sponsorship which has been agreed with Harvey Norman Sofas. The Harvey Norman title sponsorship will run from November 2012 for the season and is at the core of an overall RTÉ Client Sales campaign. The campaign will comprise of a mixture of various sponsorship credits per show, on the RTÉ Player, and a number of other integrated platforms across RTÉ.
