16 Sept: Claire Byrne to present new current affairs programme on RTÉ Radio 1 as Audrey Carville takes over on Late Debate.

As the Dáil resumes next Tuesday, RTÉ Radio 1 has announced a reshuffle to some of its leading current-affairs programming.

Radio 1’s Claire Byrne has been confirmed as presenter of a new topical current-affairs programme on Saturday afternoons. Starting at 1pm, Saturday with Claire Byrne will begin on Saturday 29 September.

Claire Byrne says: “I’m delighted to be part of the Radio 1 schedule again this year. Our aim with the new programme is to question agendas, dissect the week gone by, and debate the likely issues of the week to come. We want to hear from the newsmakers and from those whose lives are impacted by policy makers in Ireland.”

Meanwhile, RTÉ Radio 1’s late evening politics and current affairs programme, Late Debate, returns to the airwaves tomorrow, Tuesday 18 September. The programme, which was presented by Claire Byrne last season, will see respected broadcast journalist Audrey Carville take the helm.

Carville, who made her name as a BBC World Service broadcaster, has presented Late Debate in the past and has also filled in for Mary Wilson on RTÉ Radio 1’s Drivetime.
Audrey Carville says: “The next few months will be critical as the country prepares for a very tough budget. Late Debate will provide vital analysis at this crucial time.”

Saturday with Claire Byrne, Saturdays, 1pm – 2pm.
Late Debate, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, 10pm – 11pm.
