RTÉ 2fm Reveals Line-Up for its Third Nationwide 2mor 2our
RTÉ 2fm’s Jenny Huston unveiled details of three up and coming Irish bands who will embark on the third nationwide RTÉ 2fm 2moro 2our of Ireland from 15 to 25 November live on air this evening.
RTE 2fm announced the following star-studded line-up for the 2fm 2moro 2our; David Geraghty, Concerto for Constantine and last but not least, Ham Sandwich.
David Geraghty joins the 2fm 2moro 2our fresh from the launch of his debut solo album, ‘Kill Your Darlings’, but is perhaps better known as a member of one of Ireland’s most successful bands of the noughties, ‘Bell X1’. David has been gigging since his early teens and along with Damian Rice, was a member of ‘Juniper’.
Speaking at the launch David said;
“From a band’s point of view, this is a wonderful way to enjoy a tour. To be able to travel and experience all of it with two other bands is something that will be eye opening I’m sure”
Described by Hot Press as an “Irish Indie Supergroup” Concerto for Constantine is three Dubliners; singer and guitarist Mark Greaney (formerly JJ72's frontman and songwriter), bassist Gavin Fox (formerly of Turn, Idlewild and Vega4) and drummer Binzer (formerly of The Frames, BellX1, and Halite).
Mark Greaney said at the launch;
“Concerto for Constantine would like to take this opportunity to let the Republic, and beyond, know how honoured they are to be asked to be part of this tour. As a band it is Concerto for Constantine's maiden voyage. The 2fm 2moro 2our is a sturdy and splendid vessel upon which to take to the rugged coasts, central plains and sprawling metropolises of our fine land. It is impressive and reassuring that an institution like 2fm is still making the time and effort to bring new Irish music to the fore.”
Kells five piece, Ham Sandwich is led by talented duo Niamh Farren and Podge MacNamee on vocals. Their controversial name aside (Bono once recommended a change) Ham Sandwich are due to release their superb fourth single 'click...click...BOOM' in February following the success of singles 'Sad Songs', 'St. Christopher' and 'Words'.
Lead singer Niamh Farren said;
"We're all really excited about this opportunity to go on the 2FM tour! We haven’t been on a tour of this extent before and are looking forward to it all!! We can’t wait to get "on the road" and experience our first big tour together! Now we just have to plan some outfits....especially Podge."
Up to 5,000 fans will get to see these three bands perform for free on the RTÉ 2fm 2moro 2our which will visit ten different venues and nine different locations; Portlaoise, Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Ballyshannon, Dundalk, Mullingar and Dublin, across Ireland.
In addition to these three bands, a local band will be invited to perform on the 2fm 2moro 2our bill. Local bands who want to appear on the bill must apply with the official application form on the RTÉ 2fm website.
The gigs will run from 15 to 25 November nationwide including two All-Ages gigs in Cork and Dublin. RTÉ 2fm DJs including Rick O'Shea, Jenny Huston, Jenny Greene, Ruth Scott, Cormac Battle and Dan Hegarty will broadcast their shows from different points on the tour and MC in the venues.
