Snooker: Doherty loses in Champions Cup

Ireland's Ken Doherty has been beaten in the £200,000 Champions Cup in Brighton by world title-holder Mark Williams. It was a close encounter between the two in the group stages of the event. However, Williams emerged the victor in the deciding frame, beating Doherty 5-4. The Welshman also recorded the opening century of the competition during the match. Doherty fought back from 2-0 and 4-2 down to force a decider, but a risky double on the final yellow brought about his downfall. "I can still qualify but I must win my next two matches," said the former world champion following his defeat.
