This week Would You Believe tells the story of a reluctant clairvoyant who is sceptical of her psychic ability but is struggling to understand what it is and how it can be used effectively in her life.
From an early age Catherine Murphy was disturbed by something. She sensed something outside herself trying to communicate with her, something that she could not see, understand, or worse still, control. For years it frightened her and almost drove her over the edge. She didn't know what it was but knew it was an integral part of who she was.
"Inside my heart I'm a sceptic and don't believe. There's this element of doubt that this could be coming just purely from my head.It could be my subconscious picking up something." She's a straight talking mother of two who is quite realistic about her experiences but knows that it's not just in her head.
Asked if there is a spirit world out there Catherine is quite adamant: "Well, I suppose I feel I've been contacted by, call them people or spirits, whatever you like. They're on the other side of something. I have to believe in that something. Yeh, I think it's out there." She has helped find missing people but is reluctant to publicise it because of the sensitivities surrounding such cases and the vulnerabilities of the people involved. And she admits she can get things wrong. It's not like seeing with your eyes, communication is in the form of images which may not be that clear.
Catherine is afraid of how she is perceived but admits that society is more open today to the things she does. "We've come a long way from the dark ages you know, they don't burn us at the stake any more."
