Tommy O'Neill is a writer and performer. Currently he plays the Detective John Deegan in Fair City. O'Neill's past is not well known. Alcoholism and heroin addiction led him to armed robbery and doing time - nine years (reduced to three). It was this experience and his time in prison which led to writing and ultimately acting. But the truly unusual thing about O'Neill is the fact that he gave himself up to the police after hearing a voice that he describes as God.
'I couldn't stop drinking. I would sometimes be drunk for 18 months and in the end it didn't matter what I put into me, I just needed to get away from Tommy and the farther away the better.'
