ITV has confirmed that 'The X Factor' will return in its usual slot "this autumn and next".

Previous media reports had suggested that the show may move to the start of the year to facilitate judge Simon Cowell's commitments in the US.

However, an ITV spokesperson said today: "We are absolutely planning for The X Factor to return this autumn and next."

An ITV insider reportedly said: "We would be highly unlikely to air one of our major shows during the summer."

"Simon Cowell is committed to the show on ITV. The announcement that he was taking 'The X Factor' to America came as no surprise to us."

It is believed that the schedule for the US version of 'The X Factor' could clash with the UK show. Cowell is reported to be judging on both shows.
