Skin Deep

True Lives: Skin Deep is a documentary which explores the lives of five people who have severe facial deformities.

We live in a world obsessed with image and appearance. Anyone who looks different is an outsider. In True Lives: Skin Deep, a one hour documentary, we meet Jonathan, Padraic, Kellie, Tom, and Richard, five people who cannot appear in public without causing others to stare.

Ten years ago at the age of eight, Jonathan Reburn was in a serious farming accident which resulted in him losing his right eye. Jonathan is trying to come to terms with his disability and knows that people look at him differently, "I don't really feel like I fit in sometimes".

Kellie O'Farrell was just two years old when she was severely burned in an accidental car fire. Now eighteen, the experience has made her stronger and more determined. "I'm never going to have the perfect flat skin or the perfect shape face. But sometimes it's hard to accept that fact, but I try and do my best and just get on with it".

We will also hear from Padraic McCaffrey who suffers from the congenital disorder, neurofibromatosis, Richard Fletcher who had facial cancer and Tom Hickey whose face was burnt as a toddler.
