The Guests

My guests tonight are writer Hilary Fannin, Director of the Glucksman in Cork, Fiona Kearney, and writer and comedian Kevin Gildea.

The Film: Jane Eyre

Irish actor Michael Fassbender stars in, but alas not as, Jane Eyre in a new big-screen treatment of Charlotte Bronte's classic novel. With Fassbender as Mr Rochester, the lead role goes to Australian actress Mia Wasikowska - star of among other things - Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

The Exhibition: Dublin Contemporary
Dublin Contemporary: Terrible Beauty - Art, Crisis, Change and the Office of Non Compliance is the catchy title of a major exhibition of contemporary art taking place over a number of venues in Dublin from today. The work of over 90 Irish and international artists can be seen  at Earlsfort Terrace, the National Gallery, the Iveagh Gardens, the Douglas Hyde, the Hugh Lane, the RHA, and indeed on the streets of the city. The line-up is a who's who of the contemporary art world, including
some very big names such James Coleman, Willie Doherty, Thomas Hirshhorn, Alice Neel and Dexter Dalwood.

The Novel: Solace

Solace is the debut novel from Belinda Mc Keon. Mark Casey comes from a rural community in Longford but he prefers to spend his time in the pubs of Dublin as he struggles with a doctoral thesis on Maria Edgeworth. His father Tom, back on the farm, is not impressed especially when he needs help with the hay - real stuff, important stuff.

The Performance: Paul Kelly

Paul Kelly has been for three decades one of the very biggest names in Australia and is something of a cult figure over here. To coincide with the launch of his new box set, the A to Z recordings, he's here to play four concerts from tomorrow night at the Sugar Club in Dublin. He's joined tonight by his nephew Dan Kelly for a version of Dumb Things - Australia's finest Paul Kelly.
