The Guests

Author Declan Lynch, artist Jesse Jones and Irish Times theatre critic Peter Crawley.

The Play: The Shawshank Redemption

'The Shawshank Redemption', now on at the Gaiety Theatre, began as a novella by Stephen King. In 1994 it was adapted for the screen in the much-loved movie starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. And now the story has been adapted further - this time for the stage in a version written by Owen O'Neill and Dave Johns and directed by Peter Sheridan. It stars Kevin Anderson and Reg E Cathey in the roles of Andy and Red. 'The Shawshank Redemption' is at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin until 20 June.

The Film: The Girl Cut in Two

Directed by the master of the French New Wave, Claude Chabrol, 'The Girl Cut in Two' is the story of a weathergirl on French television torn between two very different lovers. It stars Ludivine Sagnier as Gabrielle Deneige, pure as the driven neige for a while at least - that is until she meets both a famous author with distinctive sexual tastes and the spoiled and unstable heir to a pharmaceuticals fortune. She's on the way up, not just in the world of weathergirls but also in apparently glamorous French society. She thinks she can handle what's happening. She can't. 'The Girl Cut in Two' opens at the IFI on Friday.

The Book: God Save the Village Green

Born in Dún Laoghaire, Keith Cullen is the man behind Setanta Records, a record label which championed acts like The Divine Comedy, Edwyn Collins and The Frank & Walters. And now his record label has become Keith Cullen's publisher with the appearance of his first novel - 'God Save the Village Green' - the story of a London-Irish family. 'God Save the Village Green' is published by Setanta.

The Exhibition: Infectious: Stay Away

Now on at the Science Gallery in Trinity, 'Infectious: Stay Away' is a new exhibition which explores - and get this - "the mechanisms of contagion and the strategies of containment through science and art". The exhibition includes a live epidemic simulation and the chance to get your DNA analysed. You can also - should you have the urge - grow your very own bacteria in a Petri dish. 'Infectious' is at the Science Gallery in Trinity until decontamination day on 17 July. This exhibition is not suitable for visitors under 15 years of age.

The Exhibition: Mary Fitzgerald - Afterlife

Also worth checking out is a new exhibition by the artist Mary Fitzgerald at the Fenton Gallery in Cork. 'Mary Fitzgerald - Afterlife' is at the Fenton Gallery in Cork until 13 June.

The Performance: Triocca

Triocca came to prominence a few years ago as the winners of the Young Musicwide Award. They're about to start a national tour where they will be launching their brand new CD, issued on the RTÉ lyric fm label. Tomorrow night they'll be at Airfield House, Dundrum then Mountshannon, Co Clare on Thursday, Belmullet on Friday and Inishowen on Saturday. Tonight they perform for us a piece from the king of tango Astor Piazzolla, 'Oblivion'.
