The Film: Anvil! The Story of Anvil

'Anvil! The Story of Anvil' is a documentary about a Canadian metal band who have been playing to shrinking audiences for the past 35 years. Directed by their ex-roadie Sacha Gervasi, the film follows lead singer Steve 'Lips' Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner as they head off on a European tour, record their difficult 13th album and return to Japan after a 20-year absence. Oh the glamour! 'Anvil! The Story of Anvil', is at the IFI and Cineworld, Parnell Street, in Dublin.

The Play: Solemn Mass for a Full Moon in Summer

Now on at the Project Arts Centre, Rough Magic's new production is the premiere of 'Solemn Mass for a Full Moon in Summer', written by the Quebecois playwright Michel Tremblay in a new translation by Bryan Delaney. It's a hot summer's night in Montréal and 11 people stand on their balconies and tell their tales of guilt, and it's all done by the light of the moon. Rough Magic's 'Solemn Mass for a Full Moon in Summer' is at the Project Arts Centre until 28 March.

The Book: The Pleasant Light of Day

'The Pleasant Light of Day' is the second collection of stories from Philip Ó Ceallaigh, a follow-up to his 2006 debut 'Notes from a Turkish Whorehouse'. The stories are set in places as diverse as Egypt and Galway. 'The Pleasant Light of Day' by Philip Ó Ceallaigh is published by Penguin.

The Exhibition: Hughie O'Donoghue

The Irish Museum of Modern Art in Kilmainham is now hosting a major retrospective of the works of Hughie O'Donoghue - Manchester-born but very much one of our own. The exhibition is entitled 'Recent Paintings and Selected Works from the American Ireland Fund Donation', among them seven pieces commissioned by the American art collector Craig Baker. These are shown with works from the artist's own collection plus loans from various private and public collections. 'Hughie O'Donoghue: Recent Paintings and Selected Works from the American Ireland Fund Donation' is at IMMA until 29 March.

The Show: Boxes

Also worth checking out at the moment is the national tour of Coiscéim's award-winning show 'Boxes'. 'Boxes' is on national tour until 2 May; details are on the Coiscéim website.

The Performance: Fight Like Apes

We leave you tonight with a band who last year released their debut album, 'Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Golden Medallion'.
