The Guests

Senator and broadcaster David Norris, actress Carrie Crowley and novelist John Boyne.

The Film: Revolutionary Road

Directed by Sam Mendes, 'Revolutionary Road' stars Mrs Mendes, Kate Winslet, and Leonardo DiCaprio in a movie based on the novel by Richard Yates. It's the summer of '55 and Frank and April Wheeler are living the American dream on Long Island. They have a nice house, two kids, a self-cleaning oven - the whole bit. But this was never what either of them ever really wanted and the banality of their lives, coupled with the frustrations of abandoned dreams, eventually starts to tear their marriage apart. 'Revolutionary Road' goes on general release on Friday.

The Film: Milk

Directed by Gus Van Sant, 'Milk' tells the true story of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay politician to be elected to office in the United States - and a man who was eventually assassinated by a colleague. Milk is played by Sean Penn. 'Milk' is on nationwide release.

The Book: The Outlander

Gil Adamson's debut novel 'The Outlander' begins in the Canadian wilderness in 1903 with a young woman "widowed by her own hand" fleeing her brothers-in-law - redheaded twins and their pack of dogs. Mary Boulton is 19-years-old and, as she tries to keep one step ahead of her ginger pursuers, she meets an extraordinary cast of characters on her way. 'The Outlander' is published by Bloomsbury.

The Film: Valkyrie

Directed by Bryan Singer, 'Valkyrie' stars Tom Cruise as Claus von Stauffenberg - a Nazi officer with one eye and one hand who made several attempts to assassinate Hitler and seize control of the government. At the heart of his plan was the idea of using one of Hitler's own plans against him, 'Operation Valkyrie' - the mobilisation of the reserve army in the event of a coup. Von Stauffenberg and his fellow plotters hoped to assassinate Hitler, mislead the reserve army that the SS was leading a coup and order it to arrest the SS and seize control in a coup of its own. But first things first: kill the Fuhrer. Easier said than done. 'Valkyrie' is on general release.
