The Guests

Writer and columnist Medb Ruane; playwright and crime novelist Declan Hughes and critic and novelist Peter Murphy.

The Film: In Bruges

Starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, 'In Bruges' is the first feature length film from the playwright Martin McDonagh, best known for works like 'The Beauty Queen of Leenane'. Already an Oscar winner for his short film 'Six Shooter', here McDonagh remains in violent territory with the story of two Irish hit men dispatched to the picturesque city of Bruges after a job in London goes badly wrong. One wants to sightsee, the other wants to drink - but neither knows why they are really there. And so as they await further instructions, their Belgian adventures begin.

The Drama: Eden

Directed by Declan Recks - the man behind the television dramas 'Pure Mule' and 'The Running Mate' - 'Eden' is the film adaptation of the play by Eugene O'Brien. It stars Aidan Kelly and Eileen Walsh as Billy and Breda Farrell, approaching their 10th wedding anniversary in a midlands town. Things are grim but Breda is hopeful of a rekindled romance with Billy while the hard drinking Billy has his hopeless eye on a local girl called Imelda. It's going to be a tricky weekend. 'Eden' will be shown on RTÉ One on St Patrick's Day at 9.40pm.

The Play: Macbeth

'Macbeth' is the new Siren Production now on at The Empty Space in Temple Bar in Dublin. Directed by Selina Cartmell, it features Rory Keenan as the man himself, Barbara Brennan as his Lady Macbeth and Gerard McSorley as Duncan, King of Scotland. This being Shakespeare, it is of course a rich tale of witchcraft, power, bloodshed, corruption and no shortage of sound and fury. 'Macbeth' is at The Empty Space until Saturday.

The Exhibition: Art in the Life World

'Art in the Life World' is an exhibition now on at the Old Swimming Pool in Ballymun. It's a project from the Ballymun Regeneration art programme - known as Breaking Ground - and it features the work of 20 international artists, installed in the old swimming pool. They include Santiago Sierra, Mark McGowan and the Irish artist Jesse Jones who filmed the Artane Brass Band playing in the empty pool. Art in the Life World is at the Old Swimming Pool in Ballymun until 12 April.

The Performance: Chequerboard

John Lambert aka Chequerboard has been described a sound sculptor - which more or less means that he deals in the unique possibilities of electronica. His just released album is called 'Penny Black' and tonight he performs for us 'Quotidian Debris'.
