'Cinderella Man', directed by Ron Howard and starring Russell Crowe is the story of Irish American boxer James Braddock who fought his way out of depression era Hell's Kitchen and finally, after many setbacks made it to the top - winning the world heavyweight title in 1935.

St Ita's psychiatric hospital, and its patients, are the subject of a new documentary series on RTÉ 1 on Monday nights. The first episode provoked some heated debate on radio last week with people questioning the ethics of broadcasting interviews with the patients. The series is made by the award winning director Alan Gilsenan.

'Slow Man' is the new novel from the South African Nobel prize winner J M Coetzee. The book centres on the life of Paul Rayment, a man approaching old age whose life is completely changed when he is knocked off his bike by a reckless teenager.

The RHA is currently hosting an exhibition of work by the Carlow Artist Stephen McKenna. It features over 50 of his later paintings, along with some of his earlier work. There is also a section of watercolours, and his rarely seen drawings.

Juan Martin is one of the great exponents of Flamenco guitar and was voted one of the top 3 guitarists in the world by the magazine Guitar Player. He is currently on a European tour and will be playing some Irish dates during October.
