The Guest Critic

What the Critics Said

Once again the seasonal classic 'The Restaurant, 5 Star Cook Off' is back. Out of more than 56 guest chefs to enter the restaurant kitchen, only 8 have walked away with the highest accolade, the coveted 5 stars, from the table of critics.

For the third time, we have invited back two '5 Star' Chefs and put them head to head in the kitchen at Wineport Lodge in Athlone. This culinary cook off is fought over 3 courses and at the end of the meal, the critics will vote for their favourite dishes. Both 5 star chefs have proven they can cook creative, original food under pressure, but there will be no stars at the end of the day - for the cook off, there will be just one winner.

In 2008, for the first time, two chefs earned 5 stars in one series, so this Christmas 'The Restaurant' is delighted to welcome back those chefs for the 5 star cook off . Sports broadcaster Des Cahill and Architect and star of 'Room to Improve', Dermot Bannon.

Joining regular critics Tom Doorley and Paolo Tullio to taste the food at the cook off and judge the winner is Paris-based TV Chef and author Trish Deseine.
