Episode 14
In this weeks episode:
In this programme we look into buying a new TV, have a guide to reading and understanding soccer results and league tables, and also feature an In the Newspiece on the political situation in Northern Ireland.
The episode also includes a studio interview with Martin Doyle, a tutor from the Newbridge Youth Training and Development Centre, County Kildare and Tom Lyng, a literacy student from Trim. Martin uses sports such as soccer to capture the interest of his students, building their confidence and trust and improving their all around literacy levels. He also discusses how keeping track of statistics in sports can help students with their maths skills, e.g. percentage possession, no of goals scored, corners taken. Tom, who is now retired, talks about fighting the challenge of admitting he had problems with his reading and writing, and going back to education. He is now far more likely to pick up the newspaper instead of switching on the TV.
