In this weeks episode:
Adult Literacy series produced by BCI in conjunction with NALA. In this programme we feature a piece on vocational learning with two girls from Tralee who are learning to cook, give useful tips on setting up an email account, and there's a really useful guide to booking flights online. The episode also includes a studio interview with Mary Bevin an Adult Literacy Practitioner and Martina O'Doherty a business studies student from Rialto in Dublin. Martina discusses how going back to the Adult Learning Centre in Crumlin gave her the confidence to start a business course at Inchicore College and how the course has helped her organise and run her daily family life. She can now help her two children with their homework and she is far more comfortable using computers and the internet than she used to be.
Mary, who tutored Martina at the Learning Centre, discusses the importance of confidence in learning and in using computers and the internet. She talks about the fear that adults have of using computers, especially when it comes to buying things online and credit card security, but that doing practical exercises in adult learning centres such as booking a holiday online can help overcome these fears and aid learning.
