XFM's drive time radio show host-extraordinaire, 'The Voice of Ireland' co-host and all-round cheeky-chappie, Eoghan McDermott is a big movie buff. Some of his favourite films include, 'Strictly Ballroom', 'The Never Ending Story', 'The Flight of the Navigator', 'The Princess Bride' and 'Drive'. Listed amongst his favourite stars are Edward Norton and Leslie Mann. Eoghan is looking forward to pressing the flesh with some film greats and seeing what makes them tick. He also can't wait to get behind the scenes on some sets as he finds that side of the production fascinating. Above all of that, of course, he is looking forward to what horrific pranks he can inflict on co-host, Mairead.
You may know Mairead Farrell best as Ray D'Arcy's sidekick on his Today FM's morning show, or for her presenting role on RTÉ One's hit reality series, 'Celebrity Bainisteoir'. However, when she's not gracing our small screens or airwaves, Mairead likes to unwind with a good movie. Her 'go-to' genre is period drama, from 'Jane Eyre' to 'The Duchess', if it's got big dresses, Mairead's sold! She names Keira Knightley as her favourite actress and our very own Brendan Gleeson as her favourite actor. Mairead is really excited to be working with her co-presenter, Eoghan McDermott, on account of the fact that he's so (and we quote) "dreamy and cute and funny and hot and funny and yummy and hot and dreamy". But on a serious note, she claims she's looking forward to watching loads of movies with the excuse of, "I have to, it's for work!"
Hailing from Rathoath in Co. Meath, Angela Scanlon has been on the cusp of fashion in Ireland for the last few years. She has written for many magazines including, Grazia Daily, Tatler and U Magazine and has appeared in fashion segments for Channel 4's 'Sunday Brunch' and TV3's 'Xposé'. Angela is a big fan of comedies and names 'Bridesmaids' and 'The Devil Wears Prada' as her most-loved films along with 'Scent of a Woman' and 'Drive'. She names Susan Sarandon as her favourite actress for the "brave roles she takes on" and mentions Jeff Bridges as one of her favourite actors. Angela is really excited to be working on 'The Movie Show' as it is something completely different to what she has done before. "Getting to go behind the scenes and seeing the unpolished version of productions," she adds, "meeting a few A-Listers would be nice too, particularly hot new actor Eddie Redmayne" - purely for professional reasons, obviously.
Daniella Moyles was born and bred in Naas, Co. Kildare. She is one of Ireland's most sought-after models and has appeared in many publications including 'Stellar' and 'VIP Magazine'. Her big television break came last year when she co-hosted Red Bull's 'Bulletin TV'. Daniella's favourite genre is comedy. However, she does have a soft spot for classic old films like '12 Angry Men'. Her favourite films range from the likes of horror classic '28 Days Later' to psychological thriller, 'Inception'. But her all-time favourite film, surprisingly enough, is 'Katy Perry: Part of Me'. Daniella is really excited about getting stuck into 'The Movie Show' and is delighted to "be getting her teeth into a new project".
Athlone boy Rob Ross' television career has seen him appear on teen-aimed 'The Café' as well as co-hosting the daytime kids' show, 'Ice', alongside Brian Ormond and Sinead Kennedy. He also worked as a roving reporter on live entertainment series, 'The Festival Roadshow' with Kathryn Thomas. When it comes to movies, Rob admits he's a big sucker for fantasy films. 'The Lord of the Rings' and soon to be released 'The Hobbit' are right up his alley. Rob's favourite actor is Paul Giamatti, specifically for his performances in 'American Splendor' and 'Sideways'. He is also proud of how Ireland's acting contingent is going from strength to strength at the moment, mentioning Brendan Gleeson and Liam Neeson among his favourite actors. As a self-confessed film buff, Rob is also really looking forward to the reviews and discussion side of the show.
Eoghan Doherty describes himself as a "Derry product". He was born in the city and grew up there too. Probably best known as 'Nordy Eoghan' on Today FM's Ray Foley Show where he does weekly movie reviews, the thing he loves most about the work he does is the fact that he's able to tell his parents that sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea watching films all day constitutes "research". And there's absolutely nothing they can do about it. When asked about his favourite film, Eoghan admits he can never answer that question properly because it's too difficult, but the film that usually pops into his head as an answer is 'Annie Hall'. "I remember the first time I saw it I thought to myself 'I wish I had made this film.' But I didn't. Woody Allen did." His favourite actors include Bill Murray, James Stewart and Will Ferrell, whereas his favourite actress list features the likes of Tina Fey, Emily Blunt and Gemma Arterton, the last one for various reasons. With regard to his role on 'The Movie Show', Eoghan is looking forward to people shouting abuse at him in the street and telling him his "misguided opinion is wrong and stupid." Here's hoping...
Straight out of Sligo, 2FM's sports reader and showbiz correspondent, Louise Heraghty, is probably best known for her work on Hector Ó hEochagáin's breakfast show. She tells us she got into movies at an early age and used to go to the local Gaiety Cinema every weekend as a kid. She has interviewed the likes of Michael Douglas, Russell Crowe and Susan Sarandon, but names Dustin Hoffman as her number one interviewee as he made her feel very comfortable despite his intimidating legendary status. Louise admits her guilty pleasures are chick-flick,s but she is also a massive Alfred Hitchcock fan naming 'Vertigo' as one of her favourite films, alongside 'No Country for Old Men', 'Fight Club' and 'The Crying Game'. Her favourite actors include Sean Penn, Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Brad Pitt, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Despite her self-confessed "exotic sounding name", Karla Zambra is from Dublin. Karla's first venture into the TV world came through the City Channel programme, The Reel Picture Show which she produced, presented and edited. Working on The Reel Picture Show gave Karla the opportunity to interview some of the world's biggest stars such as Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Seth Rogen, Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler, Saoirse Ronan, Eric Cantona, Robert Pattinson and the cast of The Hangover, to name but a few. When it comes to films, Karla has an extremely eclectic taste. She loves a good edge-of-your-seat thriller and admits chick flicks and musicals are her guilty pleasure. One genre Karla doesn't have time for though is horror, stating, "I hate being scared!" Karla's favourite film is Se7en starring Brad Pitt, but she also lists films like Chicago, Walk the Line, House of Flying Daggers, The King's Speech, Crash, Amélie, Slumdog Millionaire and Beauty and the Beast as close seconds. Karla's favourite actors range from DiCaprio to De Niro, Morgan Freeman to Stanley Tucci and Meryl Streep to Dame Judi Dench. It's no surprise that Karla is a massive move fan. She admits, "I love watching movies and talking", concluding, "so getting paid to watch movies and talk is a win/win situation!"
Growing up on the "mean streets of Knocklyon", Roe McDermott the film critic for Hot Press magazine and occasionally does film reviews and interviews for the Sunday Business Post, Spin 103.8, Movies.ie and anywhere else that will have her. Roe loves spending all day in the cinema reviewing the latest films - even the bad ones, as she is partial to the odd rant. She also enjoys interviewing actors and directors, some of her favourite interviewees have been Brendan Glesson, Nicholas Winding Refn, Viggo Mortensen and Nikki Reed. Her film reviewing aside, Roe is also a sex columnist for Fanny.ie, which she also writes features and personal pieces for. Roe enjoys most genres but admits she's an indie drama kid at heart. One genre she doesn't have much time for, however, are romantic comedies, admitting that ninety-nine per cent of the time they bring out the cynical, eye-rolling, feminist Hulk in her. When asked what her favourite film is, Roe replies, "Sophie's Choice - not the film, the situation. I can't possibly pick one." When pushed for an answer, Roe names Drive, His Girl Friday, Mullholland Drive and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind among many others. Her favourite actors list includes Michelle Williams, Toni Colette, Carey Mulligan, Michael Fassbender, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ryan Gosling. Roe is looking forward to having a good 'ol opinionated debate about all the latest releases, working with her big brother and best bud, Eoghan and telling people what to think about film, concluding, "I warp your mind because I care".
