About The Show

Starts Friday 26 July at 9.35pm on RTÉ One

Get ready for a great celebration of Irish Music where established Irish Artists give a leg up to unknown songwriters.

Presented by Nicky Byrne and Aidan Power The Hit will be broadcast live from Dublin's O2 every Friday night on RTE One Television for six weeks beginning on the 26th July.

2FM will be playing the music and will have all the latest news from behind the scenes.

You can come and see the show at the 02 for just a fiver! Tickets are available from Ticket Master.

How It Works

Unknown songwriters sell their songs to established music stars; it's the most important pitch of their lives. For the Artists, getting the best song for themselves is the business of having a Hit.

The Hit is a real music competition that is giving fledgling songwriters a chance to have chart success with an established artist. From all of the song submissions sent to the show Grammy Award Winning Music Producer Steve Lillywhite, who has produced bands such as The Rolling Stones, The Killers and U2 selects the songs for the series.

In each episode six chosen songwriters will then pitch their songs to two established artists in The Pitching Rooms. The two artists race from one pitching room to the next, they are under pressure to select a song they believe they can turn into a hit.

Away from the pitching rooms the two artists produce one track each and then perform them live on the show. Then it's up to the audience as both songs are released for download immediately after the performance.

The Hit

The song that gets the most downloads across the week following the broadcast of the show then goes forward to the grand finale on the 30th August where the most popular songs will be performed again with the RTE Concert Orchestra and viewers will then choose The Song Of The Series, The Ultimate Hit.

Tickets for RTÉ One's new songwriting competition series The Hit, which will be broadcast live from Dublin's O2, go on sale tomorrow, Saturday June 22, priced ¤5

The tickets will be available from Ticketmaster www.ticketmaster.ie outlets.
