In this final episode David McWilliams argues that a national reimagining must take place and just as happened the last time Ireland went through a similar process the country needs a big idea. That big idea is the Diaspora. Embracing the Irish Tribe of 70 million would give Ireland an immediate presence across the world while repositioning Ireland as a 'heartland' for the Diaspora would invigorate the country shaking off the conservative instincts of 'the Jagger Generation'.
In America, the UK and Argentina David meets the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Irish examining the potential of this vision. In Liverpool he meets Wayne Rooney's granny to show how many of England's most treasured heroes are Irish. In America he meets TV presenter Conan O Brien and some leading business magnates to examine Irish America's vision for Ireland. In China he finds a new generation of Irish choosing to live in China with the support of a new generation of Irish-educated Chinese and argues that together they too have a role to play in a reinvented Ireland.
To succeed in a globalised world, David explains, Ireland must draw on the legacy of previous generations and generate a new vision for the future.
