7 CommentsYou're right Stephen. To be honest people who knock others for taking an opportunity from youtube or wherever else, are only jealous that they haven't been offered an amazing opportunity. If ANYONE was offered an opportunity that could further their career would take it, although strangely enough the exact same people who would take it should it be offered, bitch about all the people who HAVE been offered the chance. It's just the way people work. They don't agree with it until they have a chance to make something of themselves at which point they contradict themselves :)
What you said at the end is the biggest key. If whatever steps you take are things that make you happy, create an opportunity for you, and don't hurt anybody else, then there's absolutely no reason to not go for it and no reason for anybody to criticize you for it. Good luck to you and congrats on all of your success.
i tink its alrite to do it because if people lik wat der doing and are being offered to get paid to do i tink they should go for it
Are eyes are twinsees samziez colour!
I personally think there is a big difference between taking an opportunity to expand your audience or to expand your career and selling out. To me, selling out is doing something based solely on the money aspect. Here's an example: If a band changes styles or achieves a larger audience due to one of their songs/albums being successful, I fail to see how that is selling out. If a band truly deserves fame and fortune, they should get it. So what if you aren't the only person who likes them anymore. However, if a rock band changes to rap because they think they can make more money that way, to me that is selling out. Or, if a band/celebrity or anyone for that matter promotes something that goes against what they believe or teach for money, that is selling out. It's like if Ghandi promoted a certain war in a commercial for money. Selling out is not making money from what you do. Everyone needs money. Most musicians do not make much money. One of my favorite quotes is from Modest Mouse's (a band accused of selling out by some fans) lead vocalist/guitarist Isaac Broke who said "You aren't the one having to earn money making music." (not verbatim) It's easy to call someone a sellout when you aren't in their position. Selling out is making money doing something that contradicts your beliefs or teachings (like what you sing about etc.) That's my thoughts. Good video Stephen.
I Think If Someone Is Just In It For The Money Then They Are Sell Outs And Only That, But If Someone Is Doing It To Better Themsevles Then By All Means Do It.
And I Love Green Day And I Thank You For Me Mentioning Them 1. Becuace It's A Really Subject(Even After All These Years) And 2. Because There Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think if it is what they WANT to do, they should, but not because other people want them to. As long as they are true to themselves and not changing JUST for fame, then they are in the clear. I really do think that the intent behind the change is the key to whether they are a sell-out or not, because honestly, everyone will change styles, and it is wrong to do so to fit in, to be more popular, or anything that is not what you would naturally do.
