TESTERS: Our testers are from the Bray Gospel Choir – four soul sisters who use hair dye at home and in the salon every so often as a treat.
Our four friends – Clodagh, Claire, Louise and Brenda - like having their natural hair colour enhanced with hair dye.
If price was no object they all would choose to go to the salon every six weeks or so and get their colour ‘done’ by a professional hairdresser.
Times are tough so three of our testers will investigate whether they can maintain their beauty on a budget - using home colouring kits.
Louise was the lucky one who drew the golden ticket - she'll have the luxurious treat of a professional hair colouring at Harpers Salon in Glasthule, Dublin.
The Consumer Show has chosen three hair colouring kits for our three brunettes - all available nationwide and all under €10.
Clodagh, Claire and Brenda will have to do the dirty work themselves and each try the home kit experience.
Clodagh used L’Oreal Casting Crème Gloss which costs €8.59. Clodagh normally needs up to two boxes of hair colour to cover her long curly hair, but was pleasantly surprised to find one box of L’Oreal was enough to give her full coverage.
Claire used Clairol Nice n’ Easy which costs €6.89. She found that it did exactly what it said on the box, and was nice and easy to use.
Brenda used Garnier Nutrisse Crème, for €6.99. She is a regular user of home dyes, but had never used this brand before. She was really happy with the results and found her hair very soft afterwards.
