Topic of the Day - Tips on Dealing with Exam Stress

With over 55,000 secondary school students due to sit their Leaving Certificate next month, the stress and worry of exams can be an extra weight on students. For one Leaving Certificate student, the pressure really took its toll. Two years ago, Derbhla Connaughton suffered a stroke before she was due sit her Leaving Certificate examinations.

Her doctors informed Derbhla that her stroke was a result of the exam pressure. Derbhla has since made a full recovery and she is now in their level college. Derbhla joins us on the show to tell us her story.. We are also joined by Dr John Ball, who give advice and tips on how best to deal with stress around exam time


TIPS ON DEALING WITH EXAM STRESS:


- Get adequate sleep

- Make sure to keep a quality diet

- Keep up your hobbies (even at exam time)

- Communicate and be open about any stress you're feeling

- Get a health check if you have any medical problems
