Topic of the Day - 'Road Safety this bank Holiday Weekend'
Thursday, 1 April 2010
As we approach a very busy Easter weekend, many people will be taking to the roads.. and If you're travelling long distances, the advice from Chief Superintendent Gabriel McIntyre is to remember to take short breaks. Gabriel says: ''People who continue to drive while fighting sleep may fall asleep at the wheel and never wake up. This is horrific for the grieving families left behind. One life lost, is one too many.
This weekend, the Garda 'Arrive Alive' campaign is encouraging people to take breaks if they're travelling a long distance. Statistics released today show indicate that 1 in 10 people have admitted falling asleep when driving behind the wheel.'' For more information on road safety you can go to www.rsa.ie
