'Donegal Youth becomes a Man United Player!'
Sixteen-year-old goalkeeper Joe Coll, from Meenlaragh, Gortahork signed on the dotted line in Manchester last Saturday, and is now a Manchester United player. Joe will begin his new career and new life on July 5 next as the club returns for pre-season. Joe, who plays in goals for his local club Glenea United in the Donegal Youth League, has been given a three year contract.
Joe and his Dad recently met Alex Ferguson before a recent Manchester United game, and the Manchester United manager took them up to his office and told Joe and his dad what standards he expects from Joe, and he hopes that one day, Joe will become the number one at the club. While Joe does not have to report for training until the first week in July, he is back in Manchester next weekend for a medical.
A fourth year pupil at PCC in Falcarragh, as part of his contract he will also continue his education for the next two years and a representative from the club will visit PCC to discuss his education so that they can then slot him in at that level in Manchester., Joe is one of the hottest prospects on the local Donegal scene and was not only being chased by Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
