How are the Smokers Feeling:

Billy Salinger: He is doing very well, still misses the act of holding the cigarette but can't believe sometimes that he is off them. He has noticed his breathing is so much better and he does not use his inhalers as much and he is delighted, he has noticed he looks a lot healthier as well and people have also noticed. His GP is delighted with his progress.

Over the last few weeks he has had a few social occasions and he has done really well, he had a christening and his daughter's birthday party, but he said the amount of people that are behind him and wishing him well he does not want to let them down plus the smell of smoke is horrible to him now and can't bare to smell it on peoples clothes even.

His friend has also given up with him so it great to have someone doing the same thing, plus he is on to Rosie and Veronica all the time so even their support is great. He is so grateful to The Afternoon Show for giving him this opportunity to stop for good and he really believes that he will never smoke again.

Kathy on Billy: "I am so proud of Billy. He has overcome such strong nicotine dependency and hasn't looked back.

He smoked about 60 per day which is classed as highly dependent on cigarettes, and had typical behaviour of smoking first thing, and even getting up through the night and smoking.

I decided to go with 16hour patches to treat the level of addiction, and then used micro tabs to treat cravings. These worked very well and he successfully stopped using them after about four weeks. He has now dropped down in strength of patch, and I hope to have him weaned off patches in four weeks time. I'll still be in contact with him after the show wraps up.

He has dealt with many of the issues that challenge smokers, such as social issues like having a drink or two, having dealt with family worries etc.

He has coped extraordinarily well without the crutch of cigarettes.

From a health perspective - Billy had breathing difficulties that were compounded by heaving smoking.

The last time I saw him, his appearance, colour, had improved. He had a fine tremor that has completely disappeared and I felt he had no wheeze at rest."

Veronica O'Donnell: She can't believe how well the tapping is working for her and loves doing it, but she says that the thinking about giving up smoking was harder for her than the actual act of stopping smoking, but, the cravings she had in the beginning are nearly all gone and she is so proud of herself for coping so well. She is so delighted with herself that she has stopped at last. She has noticed a difference in her skin and hair her health in general and all her family are saying how well she looks. She is not out of breath as much going up stairs or walking up the hill, her smell has improved just an over general feeling of wellness. She loves her paint by numbers that we gave her at the start of the show and is going to frame it when its finished to hang on her wall to reminder her to never smoke again and can't wait to arrive at her daughter Rachel's 21st smoke free.

Norah on Veronica: "The most notable fact about Veronica stopping smoking was the speed of it !She used the tapping for instantly reducing cravings as they arose "I tapped them away" and also she tapped in the morning for a couple of minutes about the day she wanted and all the aspects of a smoke free life that she chose . The other time of day that she identified as testing her was evenings just after making dinner, so we developed a tapping sequence to address that time.

Veronica attended a big party in the pub, only a short time into it and got through it easily. Factors in her success were she was quick to identify what smoking represented to her and was willing to change her thinking habits and beliefs round it. She first replied when I asked her "what do smokes mean to you?" "Cigarettes are my life." Within days she was laughing at that quote. I spoke to her yesterday and she repeated something she has said a few times " it's like I never smoked , I feel like a non smoker. "

After a few days she noticed it was easier to walk up the hill to work and also reported having lots of energy which is a change that has lasted. Saving for her holiday abroad and relishing her smoke free house have been other benefits. It has been a real pleasure to meet and work with Veronica. Her neighbour and her sister in law are using it as well for food cravings and smoking so they saw the speed and ease of the changes she made and followed suit!"

Rosie Carroll: "I am really starting to notice the difference in myself. I have loads of energy; my skin feels so much softer even my hair feels softer. I also notice my sense of smell for the first time in years I can smell fresh air properly, also my sense of taste I now know I really don't like the taste of certain things. It's like all my senses are in overdrive. The times I found the hardest was always just after a meal, first thing in the morning, and on weekends mostly Sundays.

It's getting a lot easier and the cravings are down to about ten percent now compared to 80 percent. Sometimes she is amazed that she is off the smokes and did not do it before, but the support from everyone has been amazing. As she comes from a small town everywhere she goes everyone is wishing her well or just checking up on her, if she goes into the shop they check to see what she is buying. It's great that everyone is behind her. She tried to do the knitting we gave her but it was not the easiest so she joined her Mother's knitting group and she is now knitting hats for premature babies.

Joe on Rosie: "Rosie has been very committed to the Stop Smoking programme and from day one she has been determined to succeed. There were some times during the first 4 weeks that Rosie experienced strong cravings but after that she has reported to me that she got no cravings no matter what situations she has been involved in. Personally for me it has been great working with Rosie and I am grateful that you have given me the opportunity to undertake this great adventure."
