Suzanne Byrne, Soaps Writer or Columnist or Lifestyle Editor, RTE Guide
As part of her college course, Radio, Television and Print Media at Ballyfermot College in Dublin, she undertook work experience at Woman's Way magazine. This led to her first job once she graduated college. At Woman's Way Magazine she worked on the picture desk, organising and executing cover shoots, writing the soap section and lifestyle features for the magazine.
She spent a lot of time on sourcing fashion and interior items for photo shoots which she also styled. She was also involved in the organisation of The Mum of the Year Awards. Following on from her time at Woman's Way Magazine, she moved to Irish Tatler where she continued to write lifestyle features as well as fashion stories.
Her job there also involved sourcing and styling for fashion shoots.
In 2005 she joined the editorial team at the RTÉ Guide, her role here is very varied, but she mainly look after anything to with soaps for the magazine, be it her weekly column, daily updates for the web and main feature articles or interviews for the magazine. She's also the lifestyle editor and looks after all the food, interiors, health and any other lifestyle features. And she regularly writes TV/entertainment feature pieces.
Since joining the RTÉ Guide she has had the opportunity to visit the set of and interview the stars from many of the big American programmes including Desperate Housewives, Greys Anatomy, Private Practice, Ugly Betty etc as well as Coronation Street, Eastenders and our very own Fair City. She's also interviewed a number of people from the world of film, music and TV including George Clooney, Katherine Heigl, Dido and Jamie Foxx.
Another side to her job includes contributing to various radio and TV programmes. She appeared on The Afternoon Show several times, filling in for the soap reporter. She has also been a guest in The Ruth Scott Show, Derek Mooney Show, Dave Fanning Show and The Ryan Tubridy Show.
Fair City, Tuesday 8pm, RTE One
This Week: Bob asks Louie to invest in a new business he wants to start. Louie refuses to engage and wont compensate Bob for covering Tracey's work either. Bob is disgruntled. Bob and Louie argue bitterly, with Louie determined to subjugate Bob, even sending him to clean the toilets at McCoy's. Bob feigns an injury sustained when he slipped on the wet floor of the bathroom. Louie is immediately suspicious and calls the accident "a scam".
Christy is concerned that he will disappoint Carol when he makes plans for her birthday. Louie gives Christy the night off but baulks at advising Christy on a suitable present.
Damien frets about the money Suzanne supposedly owes Charlie Kelly, unaware that Suzanne lied about this in the first instance. Suzanne urges Damien to leave her to deal with Charlie Kelly. Mark overhears Suzanne and Damien arguing and fears his imminent college plans are an additional source of financial stress. Damien denies this and puts pressure on Mark to get the required grades. Suzanne confides in Sarah that she has lied to Damien. Sarah advises her to spin a further lie to Charlie before Damien approaches him and makes matters worse.
Keith asks Sarah on a date to the National Concert Hall, pretending he got free tickets. Sarah declines and confides her unease that Keith might fancy her, to Suzanne. Sarah denies she has any feelings for Keith and maintains she is more "up-market". Duncan tells Sarah about an armed robbery his friend suffered recently and advises her to get an alarm installed at her house. Sarah gives Keith a cheap, self-install alarm and asks him to fit it. Ian tells Dean his sergeant is giving him grief for not filling quotas. Duncan asks Ian to give him some off the record information about the recent spate of burglaries in the area. Duncan implies that Ian cooperating will get him back in Sarah's good books but in fact, Duncan's coup for a feature only enrages Sarah.
Kylie discovers through Carol that Tracey has left town to look after her sister Frances, who has slipped a disc. Jo tries to make Kylie see that Tracey's absence is a good opportunity for her to start getting her life back on track. Jo informs Kylie that she has been authorized by social services to babysit for Jo and Dermot. Kylie approaches Dean, gives him back the spare key to Tracey's and tells him she will be moving on with her life. Dean has a hard time believing her. Jo and Kylie celebrate Kylie's consolidated place in their household and Kylie reassures Dermot she wont lose him any more sleep.
When Christy tells Carol about Bob's accident and she immediately jumps to the conclusion that Bob will be filing an insurance claim, Christy becomes alarmed. Christy realises he has left the insurance renewal forms in a suit that has been sent to the dry cleaners, meaning his insurance policy on McCoy's has lapsed. Christy fails to inform Louie before Louie taunts Bob into further vengefulness. Bob informs Louie he will be on convalescent leave for the foreseeable future. Louie threatens to fire Bob who counters with the threat of a law suit. Christy tries in vain to defuse the argument. Louie is cavalier about the idea of an insurance pay-out to Bob.
Mark tells Doug that Damien is wrecking his head about college and that he's no longer sure what he wants. Doug replies that he's enjoying earning a wage, however small.
Suzanne levels with Charlie, telling him she borrowed from a money lender but pretended he was the lender, to Damien. Charlie makes no bones of the fact that he is disappointed in Suzanne's error of judgment in this regard.
Eastenders, Monday 7:30pm, RTÉ One
This Week: Peggy is clearly finding not being in charge of the Vic hard and offers Roxy assistance with numerous tasks but Roxy refuses her help, insisting she needs to get her head around it all. Roxy receives a letter stating that Tracey is taking Roxy to court for unfair dismissal. Peggy tells Roxy that she should take Tracey back but Roxy refuses. Roxy announces that she's going to hold auditions to get a new barmaid. She points out that Tracey can apply so therefore she can't complain at the tribunal but Roxy stresses that with her as a judge she's unlikely to win.
Jack arrives at the Vic with flowers for Ronnie. Danny introduces himself but when Jack does the same, he's met with a cool reception from Danny. Jack isn't impressed when Danny asks which sister the flowers are for and implies that Danny has only turned up as Roxy has inherited some money. Jack tells Danny to make sure Ronnie gets the flowers.
Roxy starts the auditions and Amira, Billy and Stacey are all amongst those vying for the position. Roxy sets them a challenge, to make a cocktail and to pull a decent pint and she enlists the help of her new staff, Danny and Christian. Shirley and Tracey arrive to Roxy's displeasure.
Christian's embarrassed when his boyfriend, Leyton, arrives for the audition so he takes a break but bumps into Syed. They awkwardly talk about Syed's honeymoon. Syed claims it was perfect and Christian tells him that his relationship with Leyton is going really well. They both agree they should move on. Syed walks away happy but Christian is hurt.
The auditions are underway. Danny and Amira flirt. Amira knocks Tracey causing her to spill her drink and Roxy rejoices in being able to deduct points from Tracey. Stacey makes her cocktail and just as she is about to try it Becca shouts out "yeah, get the baby drunk" and the whole pub realise she is pregnant. Mortified Stacey rushes out. Things go from bad to worse for Amira when she is asked to change a barrel and ends up covered in beer.
Jack returns and sees that Danny has not given Ronnie the flowers. Jack asks Peggy where Ronnie could be and Peggy suggests she may be at her father's grave.
Shirley, Billy and Tracey and the others are furious when Roxy announces that no-one has the job as they didn't come up to scratch. Roxy realises things have got out of hand and Peggy remarks "this is a pub, not your own personal playground." Roxy tells Peggy it's her pub and she'll run it how she likes.
Roxy takes Christian and Danny for a curry after the day's shenanigans but the atmosphere becomes awkward when Shirley and Tracey arrive. Whilst brainstorming money making ideas for the Vic, Christian tells Roxy that for things to be a success, she is going to need to have Tracey running things. Roxy realises she has to make friends with Tracey and Shirley and she admits that she needs their help. They both agree to take their jobs back and Tracey even suggests they should hold a curry night. Roxy is impressed.
Dr. Al arrives and asks Roxy where she has been as they had arranged for her to meet his friends. They arrange to speak tomorrow, but he is clearly disappointed.
Jack spots Ronnie at Archie's graveside. When Ronnie walks away from the grave, Jack approaches but he is shocked when he realises that Ronnie has torn and scattered the flowers at Archie's grave.
Earlier that day Amira is disappointed when she wakes up alone and wants Syed to come back to bed, but he's eager get to work. Syed suggests Amira should get a job.
Christian bumps into Amira and Amira wants to know all about his new man, Leyton. Christian raves about how amazing he is, but Amira stresses that no man is perfect. Amira explains that she really wants a job and soon spots the posters outside the Vic for a barmaid.
In the Masala unit, Zainab removes several photos from the wedding album and rips them up. After her unsuccessful audition Amira arrives at the Unit. She tells Syed that she wants to work with him so they can spend more time together. She soon makes an excuse to leave as she comes up with a plan. When she returns, she is wearing nothing but a long coat with only lingerie underneath. At first Syed looks impressed but soon becomes very awkward. He tells her to get dressed in case anyone walks in. Upset by Syed's rejection, Amira flees heartbroken but she soon bumps into Danny and as he comforts her they start to kiss.
Bianca is stressed that she doesn't have enough money for the wedding she really wants. She visits Pat in hospital who soon gets Bianca to admit that she is upset as she hasn't heard back from her dad, David, about the wedding. Pat tries to make excuses and suggests Bianca calls David but she refuses. However, later whilst alone, Pat makes the call.
Stacey tells Bradley that she and Becca are off to find jobs but Bradley asks Stacey for a word. Becca looks on as he shows her a piece of paper and Stacey nods before hugging Bradley.
Becca asks Stacey what the secret chat with Bradley was about. Stacey just says it was 'baby stuff'. They soon see Danny putting up a poster, advertising auditions for bar staff and he encourages them to apply.
Whilst on her way to the cabin, Becca apologises to Stacey for her outburst during the auditions. Stacey is full of apologies when she sees Bradley as its clear he knows that people have been saying that they don't think the baby is his. Stacey says that everything will be fine as long as they stick to the story.
It's Dotty's birthday party but she's unhappy as she sits alone in her living room surrounded by balloons, presents and cards. Dot calls Ricky to ask if he's bringing Tiffany and Liam over but Ricky pretends that Tiff and Liam are not in as they don't want to go.
Dotty's day gets worse when she sees Tiffany and Liam playing in the street. Annoyed, she asks Dot "isn't it Tiffany's Birthday soon?" and then smiles to herself.
Coronation Street, Monday 7:30pm,TV3
This Week: Gail tries to talk Joe out of his crazy idea but he's adamant it's the only way out of his spiralling debts. Horrified by the madness of it all Gail tries to stop Joe as he scrambles onto the boat in the darkness she pulls him back and they row on the edge of the lake. Joe falls and sprains his wrist but manages to break free from Gail and sets off in the boat leaving Gail sobbing on the jetty. Sitting in the cottage alone, shaken and upset she tries to phone Joe but he doesn't answer. Has he gone ahead with his plan?
Back in Weatherfield Tina's worried about Joe, troubled by their last conversation. She tries his mobile over and over again but like Gail gets no reply!
Peter is well on the road to self destruction by now and turns up at George and Eve's house, drunk and demanding to see Simon. George is furious and sends him packing. Heading back to Coronation Street Peter calls in the Rovers where Michelle refuses to serve him. So he heads for the bookies where he insists Ciaran joins him for a few beers.
Meanwhile a concerned Ken, Deirdre, George and Leanne get together to discuss Peter's drink problem and George offers to pay for rehab.
Ros na Rún, Tues and Thurs 8:30pm,TG4
This Week: This week in Ros na Rún, Ríona is heavily sedated in hospital after her suicide attempt. Jason's quick thinking saved Ríona, but she faces an uphill battle on the long road to recovery. Jason, Vince and Róise keep watch at Ríona's bedside but she is refusing to speak to anyone about her decision to take her own life. Can the Ríona's friends and family persuade her to accept the help she needs from the team of counsellors and doctors?
Meanwhile, Bríd gets a shock when her estranged husband Johnny arrives unexpectedly in the village. Johnny claims he's followed Bríd to Ros na Rún to talk about their troublesome teen daughter Molly who is upset about her parents getting divorced. Bríd's new partner Mícheál hopes Johnny is just planning a flying visit, but Johnny seems taken with Ros na Rún and decides to stick around for a while! While the womenfolk of Ros na Rún will no doubt be delighted to meet rugged, charming Johnny, will it spell trouble for Mícheál and Bríd now that her flirty ex is back on the scene?

Things don't look good for the De Burca family. Ríona's suicide note will stand up in court as a confession to O'Dowd's murder and Vince is desperately trying to protect his adult children from a life behind bars. Vince knows the only way he can prove Ríona and Donncha's innocence is by finding the real murderer and his attention soon turns to Tina. Vince has correctly guessed that Tina was involved in O'Dowd's brutal murder, but can he trick clever criminal Tina into confessing?
Elsewhere, Jason has some big news for Mack. Jason reveals that he bumped into Mack's ex-fiancée Adelaide, who is pregnant! Mack is amused to think that Adelaide has already bagged herself a new man and a baby so soon after their split and thinks he's dodged a bullet by calling off their wedding. Will a lesson in biology from Berni make Mack realise that Adelaide is pregnant with his child?
