Martin has over 24 years experience in the wine trade and writes about wines for the Evening Herald. He has travelled the world sampling wines.
He passed the notoriously difficult Master of Wine exam in 1994 and became the first MW to work in Ireland the following year. There are still only three in the Republic of Ireland.
He's poured wine in restaurants and hotels in London, sold wine in Dublin, London, Paris, New York and Sydney; Picked grapes in Alsace, Chateauneuf-du-pape, Buxy, Chablis, Bordeaux and Southern England; grown grapes in England and helped ferment wine in England, Alsace, Beaujolais, Bordeaux, Bergerac, Adelaide and the Hunter valley.

Tasting Note: Chablis, made using the Chardonnay variety is the definitive versatile, dry white wine. There's light pear, apple and citrus fruit as well as a chalky mineral character.
Food Match: Should go well with fish or shellfish starters such as smoked salmon or prawns as well as the turkey or ham

Name: Tilia Reserve Chardonnay Viognier
Country & Region: Mendoza, Argentina
Tasting Note: Viognier classically smells and tastes of pear and apricot and pear certainly is the dominant aroma and flavour here backed up by apricot, citrus and melon.
Food Match: Prawns, fish or meat in a cream sauce, ham or turkey

Name: Cono Sur Pinot Noir
Country & Region: Chile
Tasting Note: Pinot Noir typically tastes of cherry and berry fruit with soft tannins and this smooth cherry and maybe even cranberry fruit scented beauty is a classic.
Food Match: Brilliant with turkey or ham or you could say turkey-tastic.
Buy It: Widely available including Supervalu, Centra, Tesco, Londis and many independent off-licences.
Name: Superquinn Classic Collection Australian Shiraz
Country & Region: South Eastern Australia
Tasting Note: There's a lot going on here for the price in this satisfyingly rich red with plenty of berry fruit but also notes of chocolate, cherry, vanilla and liquorice.
Food Match: A great choice for turkey or ham or left over turkey curry.

Name: Aldi Beerenauselese, 50cl.
Country & Region: Rheinhessen, Germany
Tasting Note: A seriously sweet and rich wine packed with flavours of honey, apricot and orange marmalade and fresh cleansing acidity that stops it being too cloying.
Food Match: Fruit based desserts or Christmas pudding
