Ray Houghton is here to talk about his successful career on the pitch and about the up coming Ireland Italy match on Saturday.

Ireland will play Italy on Saturday in Croke Park at 8pm and Ray will be commentating for RTE as our fate is decided on the pitch.

Ray Houghton was born in Glasgow in 1962. He played for West Ham United and Fulham in the early 80's. He scored 21 goals for Fulham.

In 1987 Liverpool reportedly paid £675,000 for 25 year old Ray. He played at Liverpool for 5 years. Scoring 38 goals and winning two League medals and two FA Cups.

In 1988 Ray scored a winning goal against England in Stuttgart - his first goal for Ireland. In 1992 Ray joined Aston Villa for a reported £900,000.

In 1995 Crystal Palace reportedly paid £300,000 for him. He spent just under two years at Palace before signing for Reading on a free transfer in 1997.

He represented the Republic of Ireland 73 times scoring 6 goals, his finest coming in the 1994 USA World Cup, a fantastic looping shot to defeat Italy. He played for Ireland until 1997.
Ray is an ambassador for the FAI.

This Saturdays Match :
If we get a draw/win we are guaranteed a play off spot. If we win we still have a chance (small one) to qualify without a play off.
If we lose we will still have a good chance but we'd need to draw or win against Montenegro on Wednesday.
