Biker Chic - Trends for Autumn/Winter 09'
Wednesday, 23 September 2009
Designers went loopy for leather this Autumn Winter with practically all the hottest designers featuring some sort of leather look in their collections.
From Wang to McQueen, Louis Vuitton to Hermés, few fashion houses left leather out this season. To rock one of the toughest looks on the block this season could prove expensive though, whether you're a guy or a girl.
The summer (or what was an excuse for summer.) is drawing to a close and we are now looking to what styles are coming off the runways to get us ready for the cold days ahead.
The catwalks of London, Paris, Milan and New York dictate what style hits the high street and what inevitably ends up in our wardrobes.

"Fierce fabrics for fierce times - leather is guaranteed to be the focus of your new-season look. . . Take the look uptown by layering soft second-skin leather with feminine fabrics, or downtown via tough edge leathers with studs, zips and high shine details and don't be afraid to go heavy metal on the look in spray - on treggings, tough- luxe boots or stilettos to make a tough- luxe statement."

"Biker Brigade"- "Designers went, ahem, hog wild for zipped and shrunken toppers this season. Balmain's Christophe Decarnin is the poster boy for the tough-chic trend, of course, but Haider Ackermann, Alexander Wang, and Roland Mouret also revved up the look's have-to-have-it factor."
The leather biker jacket will be a strong staple in all young fashionista's wardrobes this Autumn/Winter. As armour against the tough times we're experiencing at present, leather is seen as a protector. For this VT we'll include a motorbike and models will have a much tougher edge than in the previous one.
The 2009 biker jacket has been both revolutionised and feminised. Leather is soft and buttery and much more sexy, chic if you like, than in the past. All of the high street stores are carrying some form of leather jackets, from high end designer to much more affordable versions.
At the less expensive end of the scale are PVC versions- some of which look exactly like leather but don't have the same price-tag. Good quality leather, whilst carrying a hefty price tag, will be soft to the touch and will feel extremely luxurious.
This can be a pricey trend to gather, unless your dad was a skinny biker or maybe an older brother was rocker in the 80s! A good leather jacket is, however, an investment piece and will last you a lifetime, so that's worth thinking about when you're making your purchase. All gals should have some rock appeal in their wardrobe, so think blackest black denim, metal chains, studs, slouchy jersey t-shirts & vests.
