On Oct 22nd last year, dad of two, Robert Delaney was shot at 6.30am on Wednesday at Russle Rise in Tallaght, as he looked out the window of his second floor apartment. His attacker used a shotgun which fired pellets and Bob took the full force of the blast in the face. He sustained horrific injuries, he lost the sight in one eye and several pellets lodged in his brain causing severe brain damage. Despite the wonderful care of medical staff at Beaumont Hospital and Tallaght hospital, the Delaney family have been informed there is no chance that Robert will recover.
Robert is in a vegetative state. This is because the persons body functions normally but they are unconscious and will never wake up. He is not on a life support machine. It is believed that after he intervened to stop a row outside a pub, Robert was targeted by a gang in Tallaght passing themselves off as Republicans'. An unregistered Honda may have brought the gunman to and from the shooting. It was stolen from a garage on the Naas road and later found abandoned in the Montpelier estate in Tallaght.
