HEAT - Kevin Dundon and Kevin Thornton

HEAT, the second series is being aired on RTE One. It's an 8 part reality TV, cooking series where 20 of Ireland's most enthusiastic, amateur chefs go head to head in the kitchen with two of Ireland's most competitive celebrity chefs, Kevin Dundon and Kevin Thornton.
. Each week 4 amateur chefs, two from Team Dundon and two from Team Thornton will first cook off against each other to win the vote of their mentor and represent the team in the HEAT restaurant.
. Then for one night, the restaurant and its kitchen are split down the middle and one chef from each team goes head-to-head.
. Ely HQ has been turned into a special restaurant for the filming of HEAT.
. The punters/diners, decide the winner in each programme, with 50% of the marks for the food, and 50% based on the number of diners on each side.
. The winners of the first five programmes go on to compete in the HEAT semi-final, joined by the winner of the best losers' round.
. In the semi final two amateur chefs win their way through to the final where it'll be frying pans at dawn as they compete to become HEAT champion.
. The Grand-Finale is on at 14th of April, with the winning amateur receiving a holiday worth €10,000
Kevin Dundon is the Chef/Proprietor of Dunbrody Country House Hotel & Restaurant, located in Ireland's sunny South East, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of The World and Ireland's Blue Book. The hotel has won numerous awards including Restaurant of the Year 2004, 2005 & 2006, to name just a few.
Kevin started his career in Dublin in a restaurant called The Old Schoolhouse and continued his studies at Dublin College of Catering where he graduated in 1986. Kevin completed his Master's Degree in Canada and received honours in Chef de Cuisine in 1992.
Has cooked for many well-known celebrities including the Queen, President Bush and Bono. He has also appeared on numerous TV channels including ESPN Cable, CBC (Live) Canada, UKTV Food's Great Food Live, BBC 1's Saturday Kitchen and many RTE shows, including... The Afternoon Show.
Kevin was born in Cashel, Co Tipperary. He studied culinary arts at Galway RTC.
He worked all over the world including France, Switzerland and Canada. His jobs included working in the gardens fo the Cashel Palace Hotel, an abbatoir and in a vineyard. This, and his rural upbringing has lead him to have a respect for food and it's origin, and an understanding of the autonomy of life cycles.
Kevin is the owner of Thornton's restaurant in Dublin City Centre. He was awarded title, Chef of the Year for Ireland 2007 by Food and Wine. The two star Michelin chef believes each ingredient passing through his kitchen should be treated with absolute respect. He opened Wine Epergne in Rathmines, Dublin 1990 with wife Muriel.
In 1995, opened Thornton's. Won two Michelin stars. (Only Patrick Guilbaud shares his status). He was named Chef of the Year 2001 and Restaurant of the Year 2001 by Food and Wine magazine.
In 2005 he published his book - 'Food for life' 2005
