Tanya's Bargain Blog:
With the credit crunch firmly in place at the moment, it is great to see how some high street shops are catering for the party season, without having to break the bank. Shops such as Penneys, H&M, A/wear and Tesco have hit this trend strongly featuring some stunning dresses for under €50.
The most popular on the streets for this category seems to be the little 'prom style' cocktail dress which is always a favourite for the party season, coming in a range of style from strapless styles, asymmetric shoulders to capped sleeves.
For the slightly more mature woman a more streamlined 'galaxy style' dress made famous two years ago by Roland Mouret hits all the right notes, by streamlining your body and creating curves when curves don't exist.
Another thing worth bearing in mind is that when you reach a certain age, your arms become your problem area and women can feel very self conscious about exposing them and unfortunately most Christmas style dresses are either strapless or with thin straps so the best thing is to find a little shrug or bolero that can cover your shoulders and upper arms without distracting from the dress.
And of course once again accessories are key to creating a real wow factor, corsages are one of the biggest accessory stories of the season, thanks to sex and city so wear them on your dress, attach to a ribbon and wear as a necklace or wear in your hair for some Spanish style glamour. And complete your look with a killer clutch and some fantastic heels for extra party fever.
