The Beauty Panel - Disposable Razors

Wednesday, 21 May 2008

Suzanne Walsh - Beauty Panel Chairperson!

Beauty Panellists:

Jeanna Gallagher (28)
I'm originally from a small town in Roscommon but I presently work in Dublin. I really enjoy reading and going to the cinema. I used to work in a bookshop and I can easily spend hours getting lost in one! I studied film for a few years in college and have been involved behind the camera too. My favourite films tend to be classics; anything from Alfred Hitchcock thrillers to Audrey Hepburn romances.
But of course - I like to get outside too! I really enjoy hiking, cycling and badminton. I love heading off for a day and just walking somewhere for hours. Badminton is a great way to meet new people and its really good exercise.

Sharon Brennan (39)
Mother of five, Sharon is from Dundalk in Co. Louth and is married to her lovely husband Martin. Her children range from 10-20 and they still manage to keep her busy, running a non-stop taxi service! Sharon enjoys socialising and living life to the full. Sharon is getting set for a great family holiday in Spain this year.

Donna Lyons(26)
Donna is a very happy & proud 26yr old mother of two (3yr old son - Anthony & 2mth old daughter - Mia) from Sandyford who has Dj'd in clubs & on radio for a couple of years now on & off. Also she's had a couple of small parts in movies & tv as a featured extra/actress.

Aida D'Arcy (42)
Aida is happily married 19 years this month to Tony. They have two children, Claudia and Luke aged 12 and 10 respectively.
They live in Ratoath, Co. Meath.
Aida likes to cook, she loves walking entertaining and LIVING "Life is for Living", she says emphatically.
Aida is a WeightWatchers instructor and likes to take care of herself. She "thinks every woman should and with inexpensive products it ain't hard to do".

What the panellists said:

Panellist 1:- Jeanna Gallagher
Product: Wilkinson Sword Xtreme3 Beauty
€4.49 for 4

Do you normally use razors or do you wax/Veet/something else?
A little bit of everything! Sometimes I wax, but in between I shave.

Have you used disposable razors in the past?
Yes

What brands have you tried?
Bic and a few others - but can't remember the names

How easy were the razors to use?
Quite easy - they felt light and the grip was nice and solid.

Did you use razors on areas other than legs? How did you find them?
Just underarms

Did they have grips on the handle to make them easy to hold in the bath/shower?
Yes - they felt very nice to use

Were there any accidents?
No but my legs did sting a little afterwards when I was moisturising

Could you use razors in a hurry?
No - I don't think so. They had a hard edge to them - which I found disconcerting to shave with. I kept thinking that I was about to cut myself, though I never actually did.

Did you have to use shaving gel/foam or was there enough lubricant on the razor?
Yes definitely - there was a strip of something on the razor - but it wasn't very good.

Were your legs entirely smooth after use?
Yeah - they were ok

How long did your legs stay smooth?
Being honest - not long! Even the next day my legs weren't very smooth.

Did you think the razors were good value for money?
Yeah - they did the job for the day I suppose. They would be ideal for a holiday where you need something light to pack but you can throw them away afterwards.

Would you buy them again?
Yeah but not for everyday use - ideal just for going away - they were small and light and of course disposable

Would you recommend them to your friends?
Yes but just for a holiday

Rating out of 10:-  6/10

Notes:- the best disposable razor I have used in years at a great price a long way from the traditional Bic orange and white razor...

Panellist 3:- Donna Lyons
Product:- Gillette Agilité3
€5.25 for 4

Do you normally use razors or do you wax/Veet/something else?
I'd normally go hairy..hehe just kidding, yea I'd use razors but if I was going away on holidays I'd defo get them waxed so your guaranteed smooth legs 24/7.

Have you used disposable razors in the past?
Yes, have even used my other half's on the sly...ooopppss he's gonna know now..

What brands have you tried?
Gillette & Bic.
How easy were the razors to use?
Very easy.
I loved the way the head of the razor moved with d curves on my leg & it didn't matter how fast I did it. The grips on the handle were great in the shower & it was very light weight.

Did you use razors on areas other than legs?
Underarms & Bikini Line.

How did you find them?
Excellent.

Did they have grips on the handle to make them easy to hold in the bath/shower?
Yes which I totally loved about it & the handle was shaped in a way ideal for holding on to.

Were there any accidents?
No, not this time thank god. I like to have the skin kept on my legs thanks very much.

Could you use razors in a hurry?
With these razors, I used them in a hurry & I found them brill. I had no nick or cuts after & legs were so smooth. In the past I've used razors in a hurry before heading out & looked like I was dragged through a thorn bush :(

Did you have to use shaving gel/foam or was there enough lubricant on the razor?
Do you know what, all I had to use was my shower gel.....so happy days!!

Were your legs entirely smooth after use?
Very smooth....so smooth u could

How long did your legs stay smooth?
About 2 days.

Did you think the razors were good value for money?
Very good value. I have used Gillette Breeze & Venus & they cost a small fortune for the blades alone & I have to say ''Agilité3'' does the same job if not better & for cheaper.

Would you buy them again?
Yes.

Would you recommend them to your friends?
Definitely actually bought my mate a pack to try already.

Rating out of 10: 10/10

Notes:-Great value for money!!

Panellist 4:- Aida D'Arcy
Product: Boots Expert Triple blade razor
€3.49 for 4

Do you normally use razors or do you wax/Veet/something else? A bit of both, razors in between waxes- I don't have huge hair growth.

Have you used disposable razors in the past? Yes, usually only in between waxes though

What brands have you tried? Gillette Mach 3- my husband's ones! But that's a bit  of a bone of contention!

How easy were the razors to use? Simple as pie

Did you use razors on areas other than legs? How did you find them? Used them on underarms and they were RAZOR Sharp. They were great for getting in really close but you'd need to be really careful.

Did they have grips on the handle to make them easy to hold in the bath/shower? Yes, they're contoured

Were there any accidents? No, not this time

Could you use razors in a hurry? No way Jose! Absolutely not, they're far too sharp- or you wouldn't want to be hung-over/shaky either.

Did you have to use shaving gel/foam or was there enough lubricant on the razor? I didn't read the back of it before I used them and they did recommend using shaving foam ...so I didn't use gel but I think I should have as I got a rash after.

Were your legs entirely smooth after use? I suppose so, after the rash/dryness wore off. I needed to put cooling balm on though.

How long did your legs stay smooth? Probably 3 days.

Did you think the razors were good value for money? Yes, definitely-for what they are, they're cheap & cheerful

Would you buy them again? Probably not, but would try disposable razors again if I needed to.  I'd generally treat my legs with a bit more respect and would go for a salon wax

Would you recommend them to your friends? No, not unless I didn't like them!

Rating out of 10: 7/10

Notes:-
There wasn't much there by way of a lubricating strip- they just reminded me of the old Bic razors. Personally I found them too harsh but they're cheap and cheerful. I think I'd rather spend the extra tenner on a wax. Might be good for teenagers with no money just starting off?
