Random Acts Of Kindness - John Ryan
Wednesday, 19 December 2007
Today is our third Random Act of Kindness for a selfless and deserving individual.
John Ryan (age 49) from Tipperary has been nominated for a Random Act of Kindness for all of the hard work he puts in as a Volunteer with the Tipperary Branch of the Wheelchair Association. He was nominated by Rosaleen O' Leary a member of J.R's gang, a youth group set up by John with its main function being socialising.
Rosaleen met John twelve years ago when he became involved with the Tipperary Branch of the Wheelchair Association. At the time John was working with a Fas scheme (he is now a qualified plasterer) and he got involved through this.
John came up with the idea of setting up a youth group (18-30 year olds) with its main function being socialising. He contacted some of the members including Rosaleen and they all jumped at the chance. Four years on, there are 30 people in the group (including helpers) which they have named J'R's gang.
John organises many parties, trips and other activities during the year. The highlight is the annual holiday in Killarney. This is a lot of hard work, catering for each persons individual needs as well as each person the Association has a different disability but John just gets on with it and is always the 'life and soul of the party'.
His dedication to the group is beyond description.
John has been with his partner Trish for 6 years. He has 4 children from a previous marriage the youngest being 17. One of the children lives in Australia. John also has 2 grandchildren.
THE PRIZE. . .
John is an avid golfer. Due to the generosity of our friends at the K Club, John and his partner will spend two nights at the K Club in Kildare with breakfast each morning. They will also enjoy a dinner in one of the restaurants. Not only that, John will enjoy a round of golf on the renowned Palmer Course and be presented with his own set of clubs. This has all been made possible thanks to our friends at the K Club in Kildare, home of the 2006 Ryder Cup and the 2007 Irish Open.
