Good Conscience Gift Guide!

Thursday, 13 December 2007

People are always looking for the greatest gift at Christmas. Today, we have gifts that are perfect for friends, family and will help people you don't even know! Presenting the Good Conscience Gift Guide!

All the charities below (Trócaire, Concern, Bóthar, GOAL and Oxfam) are selling gifts which will benefit communities in countries where they work. When you buy the gift, a gift card telling you all about the gift you have bought is sent out. Meanwhile, the family or community overseas will receive the actual gift that you have purchased.  They all have a number of gifts to offer. We don't have enough time unfortunately to go through all the gifts, so we have chosen one from each. For more information on the rest of the gifts, log on to the charity's web site.

The last date of delivery is December 24th but delivery cannot be guaranteed if ordered after the 20th

Goats - Bóthar's goats come from goat farms, one of which is in Wexford, where our goats today are from. The rest are in Tipperary and Westmeath! When you buy a goat with Bóthar, they send a milk & cheese producing dairy goat to a destitute family in Africa or Eastern Europe. The majority of GOALS's goats are sent to Tanzania and Uganda. As long as a goat is cared for and healthy, it can be a fully working and producing goat for up to 10 years. GOAL monitor the families they give goats and other animals too to ensure they have correct training to care for them and to ensure the animals are healthy. (€75 for a share or €300 for one)
