Hair extensions have become more popular over the past year and more and more women are using this method to enhance their look. Today we show you how to achieve the hair extensions look yourself!
5 tips on how to do your own hair extensions:
* If purchasing hair extensions ensure your hair is suitable ie that it's long enough. If it's too short ie like Victoria Beckhams' bob for instance is too short, the extensions would slip off. Your hair should be at least 3" below the ear.
*If using hair extensions, one tip is to use human hair, because you can manipulate these extensions ie curl them, tong them etc just like your own hair. You CANNOT do this with synthetic hair pieces.
*Maintenance of human hair pieces: With human hair extensions you can maintain them just like your own hair ie shampoo, condition & brush them etc
*This is not a commitment ie it's a temporary 'clip in' method to achieve longer hair. [Permanent extensions involve waxing and beading]
*It's an ideal opportunity to try out different colours as well as different lengths ie if you have mousy brown hair for instance, it's a great way to see how blonde highlights could work in your hair.
So a good tip is to try temporary extensions before you consider the permanent route.
NB: Hair extensions are an accessory, NOT a solution to damaged or fine hair
WHAT ARE HAIR EXTENSIONS?
Extensions are the strands of hair arranged in such a way that they can be easily attached to your natural hair, increasing the length and the thickness of your hair.
They come in two main types:
. Individual strands
These two types of hair extensions differ by the way they are attached to your hair and the quality of the hair itself.
HOW THEY WORK
Individual strands are applied in small sections by weaving, heat fusing, gluing, or clamping with metal rods. Such method of hair extension includes applying to your own hair various chemical or foreign substances or objects. Of course, as every method this one also has its own advantages and disadvantages.
The main advantages of such method are:
. Long hair;
. Ability to make any hairstyle
. Ability to use hair of any colour, texture, or quality.
The greatest disadvantages of individual strands are:
. Application of foreign chemical or metal substances or objects to your hair;
. Hair damage during the removal of the extensions;
. Inability to use certain hair care products in order not to damage extensions or your own hair.
