Wine Of The Day 12th November 2007
Monday, 12 November 2007
Today's wine is to match Kevin Dundon's mussel dish!
The elegance of the wine and the fact that it isn't too heavy means that it will complement rather than over-power the dish which itself has delicate flavours. The wine isn't oaked at all
Name: Curious
Price: Normally €8.99 but on offer at €7.49 during November and December
Available: Spar, Eurospar and SparExpress
Producer: McPherson Wines, Victoria, Australia
Vintage: 2006
Country Region: South Eastern Australia
Grape Variety: 60% Chardonnay and 40% Sauvignon Blanc
Tasting Notes:
On the nose the wine has aromas of fresh apple with a hint of citrus.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full bodied, initially a slight spritz is noticeable on the tongue. Flavours on the palate are mainly apples - which follow through from the nose - with citrus, a hint of kiwi and some gooseberry flavours from the blend of Sauvignon Blanc. The wine has a buttery edge and a medium to long length.
Why this wine was chosen for this dish
The elegance of the wine and the fact that it isn't too heavy means that it will complement rather than over-power the dish which itself has delicate flavours. The wine isn't oaked at all.
Any wine stories or awards
Although the wine is from Australia and normally speaking you would expect up-front and a really fruit driven wine from this part of the country, it is actually more neutral and restrained - the climate in this area produces well-balanced wines [Goulburn Valley area].
