BOYS
. Pants/Dirty Bertie - David Roberts - €5.95
For younger boys, quick read, great for reluctant readers, lovely illustrations. Three short stories entitled Pants, Fame and Poop. In Pants, Bertie loses a bet and is supposed to go to school wearing only his pants. In Fame, he auditions for the part of the Artful Dodger but ends up as Bill Sykes' dog and in Poop he accidently sabotages a birthday party when his dog's poop ends up in the pool.

. The Legend of the Worst Boy in the World - Eoin Colfer - €11.95
Again for younger boys. Eoin Colfer is well known for his Artemis Fowl series. The story of 9 year old Will who has four brothers. He thinks nothing exciting has ever happened to him until his Dad tells him the story of how big brother Marty once tried to kill Will in order to stop him eating all the jumbo jelly babies. Really sweet book

GIRLS
. That Girl - Claire Hennessy €7.99
Claire Hennessy is a Trinity student and this is her 7th book. Aimed at older girls. Angsty story of Kim who is about to turn 16 but is stressing out about her birthday party. Will her friends show up? Will they mix? Will her parents be really embarrassing? Is she in love with her boyfriend or another guy?

. Hannah Montana books (Disney) €5.95
Hannah Montana is a Disney Channel TV series that is HUGE. Very American, slick, Valley-girl. Another all-singing all-dancing affair like High School Musical. Miley Cyrus is the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus (Achy Breaky Heart) and she plays Miley Stewart who is a regular girl by day but popstar Hannah Montana by night. The two books (Keeping Secrets & Super Sneak) are based on TV episodes and feature photos from the series

. Don't Ask Alice - Judi Curtin €7.95
The third book of six about Alice, set in Limerick and Alice and her best friend Megan are in their last few months of 6th class. Alice's parents are separated but Alice wants them back together and decides to set her dad up on dates with other women so her mum will get jealous and want her dad again! Her mum is a bit eco-friendly so Alice stresses she will embarrass her with her woolly jumper at her confirmation.

. Does Glitter count as camouflage? - Helen Salter €8.95
Helen Salter's first book was called 'Does Snogging Count as Exercise?" This is another romance novel preoccupied with kissing!! Tongues or no tongues?! 14-year-old Holly has just kissed her best mate's brother Luke. She has to go on a camping holiday, will he still be waiting for her when she gets back?

BOTH
. Derek Landy - Skulduggery Pleasant €11.95
Very Harry Potter-esque. Skulduggery Pleasant is a good-guy skeleton detective (former magician) who teams up with 12-year old Stephanie. Stephanie's uncle (a horror writer) has died and left her almost everything in his will, he also leaves Skulduggery some advice in his will. Turns out his books weren't fiction but a prediction of the future and bad guys start pursuing Stephanie for a "key", Skulduggery helps her out and discover the truth behind her uncle's death. They bicker throughout, the dialogue is very witty.

HUMOUR
. You can Save the Planet - Jacqui Wines €11.95
This is a book that would be a great summer project, it informs kids about climate change and gives 101 simple tasks kids can do to save the planet. Parents can expect their kids to turn into militant eco-warriors but all in a good cause. There are simple exercises like making sure appliances aren't on standby, not spraying air-freshener but opening a window instead but maybe not every parent will want their kids to dig a pond or make their own hair conditioner out of mayonnaise.

. Really Rotten Rhymes - Gabriel Fitzmaurice €9.99
Gabriel is a teacher and poet based in Kerry. Poems are super short and each has an illustration. Very simple vocabulary. With great titles like A Pimple on your Backside, Do Teachers Fart, How Noreen got stuck in her knickers, Pooh, Snots and When You Make a Smelly.

FANTASY
. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Release date is July 21st)
7th and final book.  Harry attempts to bring an end to his arch-enemy Voldemort by finding and destroying his remaining four Horcruxes (the receptacles that hold fragments of the Dark Wizards soul). Book 7 answers a lot of the questions that have been building up. At the end of the previous book Half-Blood Prince there was an attack on Hogwarts, we have to wait and see if it will reopen. Snape killed Dumbledore in that book too, we have to find out if that was for good or evil reasons. At least one major character will die in this book we're told. Will be released midnight July 21st.
