GOOD CAUSE GARDEN MAKEOVER UPDATE WITH EUGENE HIGGINS

Eugene joins us with an update on our Good Cause Garden Makeover.

About our Good Cause Garden
Carrigoran House in Newmarket on Fergus, Ennis, Co. Clare is owned and managed by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word which is based in Houston Texas. They are a facility for the elderly that operate on a voluntary 'not for profit' basis. The services currently provided are: - Independent Living; Convalescence, Short Stay/ Respite; Long Term Care; Dementia/ Alzheimer's Care.

All of the rooms in Carrigoran House look out onto the internal garden. However, a view is the most that the patients can enjoy, as the garden was not built with the elderly in mind. It is deemed unfit for them to go outside unless strictly supervised as there is an unsafe water feature, dangerous steps and paths. There has recently been an introduction of animals into the garden including peacocks, guinea fowl and an increasing population of rabbits.

There is no doubt that the restoration and enhancement of the garden would not only have far reaching benefits for the elderly, dementia and Alzheimer sufferers but also to the families and friends who visit Carrigoran.
