HERBAL HEALING ACHES & PAINS WITH NICKY TREACY KOHLER
Our favourite herbal healer is back with us this winter. She's going to help us through the cold and flu season with a little natural healing.
WARM MARJORAM, ROSEMARY AND EUCALYPTUS OIL USED FOR THE ACHES OF ARTHRITIS
600mls virgin olive oil
200gms of fresh or dried herbs (to include 100gms rosemary, 50gms eucalyptus, 50 gms marjoram)
. Chop herbs and place with oil inside a double boiler.
. Simmer for 2 hours (done earlier) and strain through a pop sock into clean and sterile bottles. A water bath allows the herbs to seep into the oil without spoiling.
. When decanting oil make sure that no watery scum gets into bottles.
Marjoram, Rosemary and eucalyptus, fresh and dried. Eucalyptus relieves aches and pains. Rosemary is an antioxidant. Marjoram is an anti- inflammatory.
ACHES OF THE FLU - FRESH YARROW - ACHILLEA MILLEFOLIUM TEA
. Volatile oils make it anti-inflammatory and antiseptic
. Silica repairs tissues as a wound healer.
For use in flu it stimulates circulation and increases perspiration.
FOR THE ACHES AND PAINS OF A SPRAINED OR STRAINED MUSCLE - A COMFREY AND LAVENDER BRUISE OINTMENT
Ointments are made from oils or fats with no water added. Comfrey contains allantoin which stimulates the growth of bone and soft tissue and cells in the body. You can also directly apply it as a poultice. It is a soothing, repairing and healing ointment.
200gms Petroleum jelly
30gms of fresh comfrey leaves, chopped
10gm lavender flower, chopped
. Place petroleum jelly into a glass bowl with chopped comfrey leaves and lavender, inside a saucepan of water.
