30 AND FABULOUS - POOLBEG PUBLISHING
Poolbeg Press celebrates it's 30th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion they have published Thirty and Fabulous a collection of 30 short stories from their favourite writers. All proceeds from the book will go to Women's aid.

About the book
In celebration of its anniversary, Poolbeg approached thirty of its past and present leading authors to pen a short story. The foreword to Thirty and Fabulous is written by Marian Keyes, with stories from leading authors including, Maeve Binchy, Melissa Hill, Martina Reilly, Sharon Owens, Martina Devlin, Suzanne Higgins, and Anna McPartlin. The short stories range in topic from the hilarious to the harrowing, appealing to women of all ages, from 18 to 90.
A bit about Martina Devlin
Martina is one of seven children, with 11 nieces and nephews. She was born in Omagh, Co Tyrone, After trailing round Dublin, Cardiff, Reading, Newcastle and Durham - some students get to visit exotic locations - frittering away her time at college and being a trainee newspaper reporter, she wound up working as a journalist in London for the Press Association.
She joined the Irish Independent in Dublin as a reporter and columnist, later moving to Ireland on Sunday, and now works as a full-time novelist, part-time journalist and very occasional waitress at her brothers' café, The Pink Elephant in Omagh. Martina started writing fiction in 1996 when she won a Hennessy Literary Award for her first short story.

A bit about Women's Aid
. In 2004, the Women's Aid National Helpline received over 19,901 calls.
. There have been 124 females murdered in Ireland since the beginning of 1996. All were murdered by males.
. In 2003, the Gardaí recorded 8,452 incidents of domestic abuse. (An Garda Síochána Annual Report, 2003)
. 15,000 calls were made to the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre in 2004 (Rape Crisis Centre Statistics, 2004).
. In 1999, two out of three women who sought refuge accommodation were refused - 1104 women were refused refuge accommodation in the Eastern Regional Health Authority area and 609 women were accommodated. (Kelleher 2001). This is mainly because refuges were full.
