What is Test the Nation?
Test the Nation is a test designed to give people across the country the chance to test their IQ. It will be broadcast live from RTE where 6 teams of 40 contestants from varying walks of life will take part. They will be joined by some experts and well-known faces who will also take part in the test. The test has been specially devised by Dr Colin Cooper from Queen’s University Belfast and has never been seen on television before. Miriam O Callaghan and Craig Doyle will present the show.

When is Test the Nation taking place?

Test the Nation will take place on January 1st on RTE One from 20:00 – 21:00. The results show will be from 22.00 – 23.10.

What is the Test like?

The Test is comprised of 70 questions in total. The questions will be posed over the course of five rounds during the first part of the programme on January 1st. The questions will cover a range of areas from memory to logic and will be posed in a visual way providing lots of entertainment and debate

How can I play along with the Test at home?
You can play along by several different methods, depending on your preference: on the web, by  text on your mobile phone or by playing along at home with a pen and paper.

How do I play along by text?
You can pre-Register to take the test on your mobile phone by following these instructions ...

1. First, choose the “Compose Message” function on your mobile phone.
2. Start a new text message and type the letters IQ, followed by a space.
3. Now enter the letter F for Female or M for Male followed by a space.
4. Enter your age next, followed again by a space.
5. Finally, let us know what county you live in, either by typing your car registration county code or simply type the full name of your county.

During the programme on January 1st, we will then be giving out the instructions for playing the game on your mobile phone. There will be five sections of questions (70 questions in total) and you enter each round by sending in a text in the following format :
R1 AAABBBCCAABBDD; R2 AAABBBCCAABBDD; R3 AAABBBCCAABBDD etc

Miriam will prompt you to send in your answers at the end of each section.
